February Garden To Do List

As we start to see the first signs of spring in our gardens, with the tips of bulbs peeking through the soil, there are lots of jobs to be getting on with to prepare for an exciting growing season ahead. Now is the perfect time to lay the groundwork for the rush of spring that awaits.

Flowers

  1. Sow hardy annuals in pots for colourful displays
  2. Plant lily bulbs and dahlia tubers indoors in warm, well-lit areas for future blooms
  3. Cut back ornamental grasses and perennials
  4. Mulch your beds and borders
  5. Plan borders and buy seeds as needed
  6. Divide and replant snowdrops

Trees & Shrubs

  1. Plant hedges, trees and shrubs for the year
  2. Mulch hedges, trees and shrubs
  3. Tie up damaged branches on bushes
  4. Checkup on and adjust tree stakes as necessary
  5. Prune summer flowering shrubs
  6. Remove weeds from young trees and hedges
  7. Repot or top-dress shrubs in containers

General Jobs

  1. Clean out your greenhouse and shed, ready for the new season
  2. Brush or jet wash paving to prevent algae from making it slippy on wet days
